about josh

Josh became a comedian as a young boy. Uncomfortable in his own skin, he learned to make people laugh to mask what was going on inside. As usual, God has  reason for everything.

He grew up in the heart of the Independent Fundamental Baptist world. While there are many people in the movement that are good people, it had very damaging consequences on his view of God, Christianity, and what it meant to be a follower of Christ.

There are a few events in Josh’s life that have made the concept of suffering and God’s goodness central to his experience and mission. His father died when he was an infant, and his grandfather passed away 2 years later. As a boy, Josh was molested by a youth leader in his church. As Josh began to ask questions that could not be answered, his discontent turned to bitterness and anger. As a teenager, he became what he likes to call an “attempting atheist.” He read as many books on atheism and naturalism as he could get his hands on. Ultimately, this led him right back to the Cross. When he was 18, Josh suffered a brain injury while playing basketball that cost him basketball scholarships and all of his plans for the future. At 27 years old, he was diagnosed with an incurable, genetic neurological disorder that causes an enormous amount of pain and difficulty.  God has been faithful through it all, and has made his love and presence evident through it all.

These events in Josh’s life forced him to develop a comprehensive position on God’s Goodness in the midst of human suffering. It is Josh’s heart to bring that message to as many people as possible. How can God be all-loving and all-powerful when He allows suffering to exist? Does God care about my suffering? Does He actually love me?

Over the last 16 years, Josh has had the privilege of speaking many hundreds of times to thousands of people.

Josh has been married to Whitney since 2008 and they have two beautiful daughters.
